A Population Health Imperative: Tackling Childhood Obesity

Dr. Sarah Barlow, MD, MPH is a nationally recognized expert in childhood obesity. She currently serves as Professor of Pediatrics and Data and Population Sciences at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Director of Children’s Health Integrated Program in Childhood Obesity at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Barlow received her medical degree from UT Southwestern; completed her pediatric residency at Brown University and fellowship training in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition at Tufts School of Medicine; and earned a Masters in Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health. She is board certified in pediatric gastroenterology (American Board of Pediatrics, since 1997). She joined the pediatrics faculty at UT Southwestern in 2016. In addition to providing patient care and teaching medical students, Dr. Barlow oversees an integrated program in obesity care that spans community programs, primary healthcare and tertiary care. She was an investigator on the Texas Childhood Obesity Research Demonstration project, a CDC-sponsored study that examined healthcare, school, and early childhood education programs for obesity prevention and care in low income neighborhoods.
