Robert Morse is the Chief Data Strategist for U.S. News & World Report. He is in charge of the methodologies for the Best Colleges, the Best Graduate Schools and Best High Schools rankings all of which are published annually by U.S. News & World Report. He also plays a key role in developing the annual Best Online Degree Program rankings. He is also directing and designed the methodologies for U.S. News Best Global Universities annual rankings. He takes the lead role in survey design, ranking methodology and higher education research as well as monitoring data collection for all the academic rankings published by U.S. News.

Morse developed almost all of the current methodologies that are used in the Best Colleges and Best Graduate Schools ranking projects and has been working full-time on both the Best Colleges and Best Graduate Schools publications starting in 1989. U.S. News has published the Best Colleges rankings annually starting in 1987. The Best Graduate Schools rankings have been published annually by U.S. News starting in 1990.  The Best High Schools rankings were published for the first time in December 2007. The first Best Online Degree Program numerical rankings were published in 2013.

Morse is the author of the popular U.S. News blog on rankings called “Morse Code: Inside the College Rankings.”

Morse is one of the founding members and on the board of the International Ranking Experts Group. He is also a frequent speaker at higher education conferences in the United States and around the world.

Morse has been at U.S. News since 1976 and held other positions at U.S. News prior to his current job including Director of Data Research and head of the Economic Unit.

Prior to joining U.S. News he also worked at the U.S. Treasury Department and the New York investment bank E.F. Hutton Co. Inc.

Morse has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Cincinnati and an M.B.A. in Finance from Michigan State University.
