Michael-Anne Browne, MD is a Clinical Associate Professor at Stanford School of Medicine and the Associate CMO of Accountable Care for Stanford Children’s Health. Michael-Anne served as the Payment Reform Champion for this site’s participation in CHA’s Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation Award CARE (Coordinating All Resources Effectively) for Children with Medical Complexity. By working with a local Managed Medicaid plan and demonstrating significant reductions in hospital days and ED visits, Michael-Anne was able to negotiate a case management fee to cover services rendered for designated children by Stanford Children’s complex case management program. That program, called CORE (Coordinating and Optimizing all Resources Effectively), serves about 400 medically complex children, almost 300 of whom see 4-6 (sometimes more) pediatric specialists on a regular basis. Dr. Browne is also the CMO for Stanford’s ACO insurance product for self-insured employers, Stanford Health Care Alliance.
Dr. Browne has over 25 years’ experience in health care delivery systems, often working at the intersection of the clinical and the business needs of the system. Michael-Anne has worked within medical groups, IPAs, hospitals and health plans on value-based models of care. Most recently Dr Browne was an Associate Vice President at Blue Shield of California where she worked for over ten years serving in a variety of roles, including as Medical Director for Quality.
Dr. Browne received her undergraduate degree in Human Biology from Stanford University. She completed medical school and a residency in Family Practice at University of California, Irvine.
