John W. Lin, M.D., is the Global Strategy Leader for GE Healthcare, an $18 billion business unit of General Electric that provides transformational medical technologies and solutions to the global healthcare industry. GE Healthcare supports customers in more than 100 countries with a broad range of services and systems, from diagnostic imaging and healthcare IT through molecular diagnostics and life sciences. Lin is based at GE Healthcare’s headquarters in Chicago and joined GE in his current role in October 2016.
A former surgeon, Lin has more than 15 years of healthcare leadership experience. In his role at GE Healthcare, Lin is responsible for leading strategic initiatives at the corporate and business unit levels, including capital allocation, profitable growth, and active portfolio management.
Prior to joining GE, Lin was a Partner at McKinsey & Company, where he was a leader in the Healthcare practice. Over his 12 years as a strategy consultant Lin developed deep expertise in profitable growth acceleration; building new lines of business; M&A; and leading sustainable change at scale. Recognized as an expert on growth strategy and change leadership issues, Lin is a frequently-invited speaker at industry association and Board meetings, and has published articles in IN VIVO, The Wall Street Journal, and other business and professional publications.
Lin trained in general surgery at the John Hopkins Medical Institutions and has conducted research in gastrointestinal cancer and pancreatic embryology. He holds an M.D. degree from the John Hopkins University School of Medicine, as well as Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
