As many providers continue the shift toward value-based care, obstacles remain. For example, the rules governing accountable care organizations are in flux and the future of bundled payments is also uncertain as CMS has reduced or eliminated support for mandatory models, choosing instead to put greater emphasis on voluntary approaches and more experimentation at the local level. Some states have seen early success in developing statewide models, but many of these efforts are dependent on the continuation of federal support. What’s more, some experts believe that value-based care initiatives cannot be fully successful without pairing them with more expansive initiatives in population health and care outside of traditional clinical walls. States and individual providers have found a range of promising approaches, but there is no one-size-fits-all model. Join us to examine the many challenges and continuing promise of value-based care to lower costs and improve outcomes.
