U.S. News evaluates hospitals in 16 specialties and 9 procedures and conditions. Among its methodologists’ top priorities are broadening the use of clinically meaningful, carefully risk-adjusted outcome measures, including in ranking rehabilitation hospitals, where outcome measures will debut in 2020. This session will preview upcoming methodology changes and offer hospital leaders a deeper understanding of U.S. News’ rationale for recent adjustments. Discussion will cover future directions the U.S. News rankings may take, such as measuring performance in transitions of care and making continued progress in understanding sociodemographic factors and health equity.
