Bob Gilbert is the president of MedStar Ambulatory Services. He is responsible for coordinating development and operations of MedStar Health ambulatory projects and businesses across Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. In this role he works to enhance the existing portfolio of ambulatory services, establish new care sites and services, and is accountable for the operational results of MedStar’s ambulatory network.

Before joining MedStar Health, Gilbert spent 20 years with OhioHealth, most recently as the chief operating officer of its Ambulatory Services division with responsibility for developing and managing its network of 25 off-site ambulatory centers overseeing a number of regional clinical programs, and serving as lead executive for its Surgery, Sleep and Occupational Medicine Joint Ventures. He previously served as senior operations officer for the Ambulatory/Regional Services group, comprised of 1,400 associates, and was responsible for the ancillary operations supporting three hospital campuses and 12 regional ambulatory centers. During his first four years with OhioHealth, Gilbert was the vice president of Ambulatory Services for Grant Medical Center.

From 1988 to 1993, Gilbert was associate regional medical facilities administrator for Kaiser Permanente. From 1981 to 1988, he worked at Meridia Euclid Hospital, serving in various roles including administrator of Professional Services and vice president of Operations.

Gilbert received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from The Ohio State University.

He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and past president of The Ohio State University Health Services Alumni Association.
