Robert Groves, M.D., is the vice president Health Management for Banner Health headquartered in Phoenix with operations throughout the Western U.S.

Dr. Groves received a medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and then completed an Internal Medicine internship and residency at Parkland Hospital and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Subsequently, he completed fellowships in Critical Care Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Groves worked in private practice for 13 years at North Colorado Medical Center where he held numerous medical staff leadership positions, served on the Banner Health Advisory Board, and acted as vice chair of the North Colorado Medical Center, Inc. Board of Directors. Dr. Groves also served as chief medical officer and Board member for Ascriptus, Inc. and was a collaborator and co-inventor of a method patent for voice-to-data technology now held by Ascriptus.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Groves was senior medical director of Clinical Performance for Banner Health. In this role, Dr. Groves led the Banner Health system initiative to leverage clinical informatics for process improvement and standardize health care delivery across the system. In his prior role as Banner Telehealth medical director, Dr. Groves led the rollout of the TeleICU service. Banner Telehealth currently serves over 430 ICU beds in 18 hospitals in Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming and Nevada and is slated to expand to all adult ICU beds within the Banner Health system. Dr. Groves also continues to serve as the system medical director for Critical Care where he has led dramatic improvements in severity-adjusted survival while significantly reducing length of stay.
