Since 2013 Akram Boutros has piloted an unprecedented transformation of Cuyahoga County’s public healthcare system.
Under his leadership, MetroHealth has more than doubled the number of locations from which it cares for the community, bringing the total to more than 70. It has improved the health of Cuyahoga County by hiring more than 1,000 additional employees, sending doctors into a dozen Cleveland schools and completing an $82 million expansion of its Critical Care Pavilion. Annual operating income has grown from $10.3 million in 2012 to $29.8 million in 2015. Now a $1 billion operation, MetroHealth caregivers treat patients at more than 1 million visits a year.
